Commentary | In the center of the composition, don Quixote embraces Sancho before the squire leaves for Barataria Island.
On the right, the Duke and servants. On the left, the Duchess and servants with Sancho's donkey. Theatrical and well-balanced composition. Drawing and engraving are acceptable as a whole, but deficient in some details. |
Notes | 1 - Plate XVII.
2 - Surrounded by a strong line enclosing underneath a space for inscription, which however has been left blank. 3 - Copy after Coypel's illustration (Paris: Surugue, c. 1724). 4 - Probably, the copy has been done after the plate for Paris/La Haye: Chez Bleuet, 1774, which has a similar frame and underneath space but with caption. |
